Katty McMurray (b.1970) Tea and Daffs at the Café Oil on Canvas Signed front, bottom right Untitled & undated 450 x 450mm Private collection, Christchurch. Painter, born in Wimbledon, southwest London, who studied at Epsom School of Art and graduated with honours from Chelsea School of Art, which she entered in 1989. McMurray’s work was based on wide travels abroad, with shapes, lines and colours recorded in sketch-books being worked up into larger pictures in her Brighton, Sussex, sea-front studio. Examples were included in her joint exhibition with Geoffrey Robinson organised in 2004 by Lena Boyle at Flying Colours Gallery. Other exhibitions included Lyndons Fine Art (Portobello Open Prize), 1997; CCA Galleries, Farnham, 2001; and the Fairfax Gallery, Tunbridge Wells, 2004. McMurray’s work was published as limited-edition prints by Artizan Editions and CCA Galleries; she had posters and cards published by the Art Group and Cannes Down Press; in 1999 she was chosen to be the Brighton Festival poster artist; and she was commissioned to produce a painting for the new Cunard Cruise liner Queen Victoria’s 2004 launch.
