L 100 x H 65mm These amulets were placed on the chest of a mummy to protect the deceased's heart during the afterlife's judgment, preventing it from testifying against the owner in the weighing of the heart ceremony. The heart was believed to be the seat of intellect and emotion, and the amulet included inscriptions from the Book of the Dead to ensure a successful passage into the afterlife.
