General Art Auction Part I Saturday, 21 March 2026 / 11:00 am start
House of Huia invites you to something special - the South Island’s first major art auction of 2026. Presented in two carefully curated parts, this sale brings together an extraordinary breadth of works that span time, taste, and tradition. From the atmospheric mastery of Petrus Van der Velden to the refined elegance of Margaret Stoddart and Sydney Lough Thomson, the catalogue reveals a rich thread of New Zealand’s artistic legacy. Names such as George Chance, John Weeks, and the seldom-seen Matthew Clayton add further intrigue to an already compelling offering. The story deepens as the sale moves into the 20th century, where a dynamic mix of artists - including A.A. Deans, Gordon Walters, Sam Cairncross, Terry Stringer, Llew Summers, Ray Herber, and Henri Matisse - showcases a striking diversity of medium, movement, and voice. Part II opens the door wider still, offering a thoughtfully assembled selection of New Zealand works at more accessible levels - an invitation to both seasoned collectors and those looking to bring something meaningful into their space. Part I will be held live and online from our rooms at 27 Lunns Road at 11am on Saturday 21st March, followed by Part II online at 6pm that evening. We warmly encourage you to step inside our newly built gallery and experience the works in person - there is much to discover. *Please note we offer a packing and freight service through Pack & Send, who will collect your items and invoice you directly.
