Lot Details
Thomas Arthur McCormack (1883-1973) Riverbank & Ferns Watercolour Signed 310 x 470mm Note: “After spending his early years [in Napier, McCormack] moved to Wellington in 1921 to set up a studio. McCormack was one of New Zealand's first full time painters to remain solely in New Zealand to paint. In 1956 he was honoured with an OBE. T.A. McCormack was intrigued by the subtleties of light and rhythms within the landscape. He was a master of the watercolour medium, and had an almost unlimited range of brushwork, from sensitive and light touches, to assertive boldness of swiftly applied strokes. McCormack has been called a poet of understatement” (Jarvis, 1998)
