Lot Details
An iconic minimalist table designed by renowned French architect Jean Nouvel for the Cartier Foundation in Paris in 1994. Constructed from a folded sheet of steel with slender, removable L-shaped legs, the design is defined by its clean lines, elegant proportions and understated aesthetic. Finished in a sophisticated silver-grey lacquer, the table has a striking yet versatile profile, equally suited to use as a desk or dining table. The Less range became an important reference in contemporary design and was manufactured by Italian furniture company UniFor. A 1994 example is held in the collection of The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), New York, highlighting the design’s enduring significance within 20th-century furniture and architectural design. Dimensions: 1900 × 900 × 720mm The vendor imported this piece through Matisse in 2001. The table later evolved into Less Less, a lighter aluminium successor developed around 20 years later. Jean Nouvel described Less Less as continuing the same investigation into the “essence” of the table, but becoming even thinner and lighter. Noting this is the original steel version.
