Lot Details
Ludwig Mies van der Rohe “Brno” Flat Bar Chair, 1930 Designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe in 1930 for Villa Tugendhat in Brno, Czech Republic, the Brno Chair is one of the defining designs of 20th-century modernist furniture. The flat-bar version is distinguished by its cantilevered polished chrome steel frame, which supports the seat without conventional rear legs. This example features a polished chrome flat-bar frame with black leather upholstery. It is signed on the base and bears “Knoll” underneath the upholstered seat, identifying it as a Knoll-produced example. The Brno Chair remains in production through Knoll and is held in major museum collections, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
