The New Zealand Railway Observer is New Zealand's oldest rail enthusiast publication, started by Tom McGavin in 1944 under the guise of the New Zealand Railway Correspondence Society. Annual subscriptions were set such that they would cover the cost of production of the Observer, limited to 36 pages per year at that stage. The first 74 issues were double-sided foolscap sheets, Gestetner copied, and made available to a relatively small group of members. Demand grew, and it quickly became a national publication Books are sold as is, including any faults, and have not been collated. This means pages, plates and maps have not been checked, and sets are not guaranteed complete unless stated. Edition, printing and signature details are given in good faith and are not guaranteed unless stated in the description. Items are offered on behalf of vendors, and many will show wear consistent with age. This may include foxing, toning, ex-library marks, inscriptions, loose bindings, odours, or dust jackets that are missing, damaged or not original. Photos form part of the description, and bidders should look at them carefully. We are happy to provide condition reports and will do everything we can to answer every request. Because of the size of this auction, we can't guarantee a report for requests received close to the sale. Please get in touch as early as possible.
