Walter Bowring (1874-1931) M. Murphy Graphite & Gouache on board Signed & dated bottom right on recto (1901) 411 x 270mm The Press' private archive of Walter Bowring Additional Information: Information included on verso: 'M.Murphy, First permanent secretary of the Canterbury agricultural and pastoral society (September 1878- December 1900) and editor of the society's journal. The drawing appeared in the weekly press p68- October 23, 1901' Framed with glass (in good condition) Marked and Ink stained. Including graphite transfer. Top right corner with discolouration. In aged condition. As both an artistic creation and a historical document, the work serves as an important resource for the study of regional history. Images can be directly connected to contemporary reporting in The Press, enhancing their significance when viewed in conjunction with written primary sources.
