Walter Bowring (1874-1931) 'Un-named' Graphite, Ink & Gouache on board Signed right on recto Undated 523 x 414mm The Press' private archive of Walter Bowring Additional Information: Unframed and noted 'Un-named' bottom right on recto. Marked with rough edges on card and foxing. Including graphite transfer. In aged condition. Henry Wynn Williams [assumed] Henry Wynn Williams was a Christchurch lawyer and politician. He was a member of the Canterbury Provincial Council from 1865 until the abolition of the provinces in 1876 with one interruption, and was elected to the House of Representatives as the representative for Heathcote in 1881 for one term. As both an artistic creation and a historical document, the work serves as an important resource for the study of regional history. Images can be directly connected to contemporary reporting in The Press, enhancing their significance when viewed in conjunction with written primary sources.
