Walter Bowring (1874-1931) 'W. S. Kirkpatrick' Graphite, Ink & Gouache on board Signed & Dated (1901) right on recto 523 x 414mm The Press' private archive of Walter Bowring Additional Information: Unframed and noted 'W S Kirkpatrick' bottom right on recto. Marked with rough edges on card and foxing. Including graphite transfer. In aged condition. Samuel Kirkpatrick was a Nelson entrepreneur and businessman who started a fruit processing company and marketed his products under a distinctive ‘K’ label. He later acquired the Nelson Fish Company and a Wellington-based tea and coffee company. He became president of the Nelson Hockey Association in May 1910, served a term as city councillor from 1898 and was a Freemason. He died on May 21, 1925 As both an artistic creation and a historical document, the work serves as an important resource for the study of regional history.
