Walter Bowring (1874-1931) The Bench NZ Justices Lithograph Signed & dated right left on recto (1913) 470 x 746mm The Press' private archive of Walter Bowring Additional Information: Framed with glass (in good condition) Marked and graphite transfer. Left side with discolouration, potential water damage. In aged condition. This cartoon depicts eight Justices of the Supreme Court of New Zealand in 1913, identified as (from left) F. R. Chapman, W. B. Edwards, J. S. Williams, Robert Stout, J. E. Denniston, T. Cooper and W. A. Sim, with A. Cooper in front. As both an artistic creation and a historical document, the work serves as an important resource for the study of regional history. Images can be directly connected to contemporary reporting in The Press, enhancing their significance when viewed in conjunction with written primary sources.
